Rotifer Eggs

Rotifers are a near microscopic aquatic invertebrate prized by fish breeders because their extremely small size makes them suitable for many newly hatched fry. Once established, rotifers reproduce rapidly and can provide a continuous supply of live food. 

Culturing Instructions

Add the eggs to a small container of green water and stir gently. Keep the container in a well lit area and provide gentle aeration. Some of the eggs should begin to hatch within a few days. For best results feed rotifers daily with green water or algae paste. Starting your rotifer culture in a small container will keep the initial population concentrated at a higher density which helps the culture become established more quickly. As the rotifers multiply, gradually move them into larger containers to increase production.

Pro Tips

Maintain more than one culture. Rotifers can reproduce extremely quickly under good conditions but dense cultures can also crash unexpectedly. Once your culture is established consider dividing it between two or more containers. Maintaining a backup culture provides some insurance if one culture fails.
